Based on a reading of “Mensagem” by Fernando Pessoa, this exhibition presents unpublished works by resident artists of Galeria das Salgadeiras, representing multiple interpretations of Pessoa’s book-poem.

“The artists participating in this exhibition were, as could not be otherwise, given complete freedom to interpret and construct their own messages. Each, in their artistic expression, focused their soul and thought on the aspects that interested them most, whether aesthetic or political.

Just as the readings of Mensagem are multiple, here we present the interpretations of these seven artists, which should not be understood as illustrations, because they go beyond the text, even though they were created from it. After all, ‘God wills, man dreams, the work is born,’” as Ana Matos, curator of the exhibition and director of Galeria das Salgadeiras, notes in the presentation text for the exhibition “Grifo.”
