Teresa Gonçalves Lobo presents the exhibition “ENTRE NÓS” (“Between Us”) with her most recent drawings, in which lines and knots emerge and reveal themselves from the poetry of Herberto Hélder.

Lines that appear with an almost paradoxical strength and delicacy, creating knots and loops; intertwining, separating, and meeting again, defying the laws of physics. Though parallel, they will meet in that infinity which is the immortality inherent to Art.

They obey only, and fortunately, the artist’s hand: the way her fingers grasp the pastel and charcoal, the rawness of brown paper and rope, the force with which the body traverses what was once an immaculate sheet, now imbued with texture, in an absolute monochromatic register that asserts life, where there are no blind knots. It is, therefore, in that “hard knot alone,” which at times tightens around our essence, that Teresa Gonçalves Lobo’s line encounters the creative universe of Herberto Hélder, crying out as if suffocating:

“and I am sensitive only to the paper and the ballpoint pen:
to the hand that administers my soul.”
