Fátima, Portugal, 1977 Lives and works in Lisbon.
Martinho Costa works across multiple media, ranging from studio painting on canvas to the creation of unique artist’s books, as well as pictorial interventions in outdoor spaces and, more recently, video animations. These various media, across which he has been expanding his artistic practice, share a common thread: the use of pre-existing images as models for his paintings. It is a process of transforming surrounding motifs, attempting to update the major themes and genres that shape the rich tradition of painting in art history.
Represented in various Portuguese collections such as Colecção Opway, Colecção Manuel de Brito, Fundação PLMJ, Colecção Associação Industrial Portuguesa and in Spain Colección Navacerrada.
Represented by Salgadeiras Arte Contemporânea (Lisboa), and by Galería Silvestre (Madrid).
