Utopia hoje

Museu Abílio, Óbidos

The exhibition “Utopia Today” presents proposals by Augusto Brázio, Cláudio Garrudo, Hélio Luís, Joanna Latka, Marta Ubach, Paula Almozara, Pauliana Valente Pimentel, Rui Soares Costa, Teresa Gonçalves Lobo, and Tiago Casanova, who freely and authorially interpret the works of two major figures of our literature: Fernando Pessoa and José Saramago.

Curated by Ana Matos, “Utopia Today” is a partnership between Casa Fernando Pessoa, the José Saramago Foundation, and Galeria das Salgadeiras, for the 2nd edition of FOLIO — International Literature Festival of Óbidos 2016.

“Five hundred years after the publication of Utopia by Thomas More, 82 years after Mensagem by Fernando Pessoa, and 30 years after The Stone Raft by José Saramago, what meanings can we find today for the word Utopia? The ‘non-place,’ in its etymological sense, the projection of a world we claim to be better, because more just? With this exhibition, reflections of an aesthetic and artistic nature are proposed, but also political and social, around the theme of utopia.”
