The behaviour of being

Galeria das Salgadeiras presents the exhibition “The Behaviour of Being” by Pauliana Valente Pimentel, winner of the 2015 Authors Award from the Portuguese Society of Authors in the category of Best Photography Work, and represented by Galeria das Salgadeiras since 2011, in what is her second solo exhibition at the gallery.

“The Behaviour of Being” portrays an environment of collective artistic production, set apart from major urban centers, reflecting on some of the challenges currently facing contemporary artistic practice: the need for silence, the suspension of time and space, a certain stillness, the search for places of contemplation, the development of community among artists from distinct territories, and a return to our origins as a society. Could these Algarve lands be the sacred and idyllic place for artistic development?

Following “The Passenger,” in which she portrayed a train journey across Europe with various artists, a project that received recognition from the Portuguese Society of Authors, and “Jovens de Atenas,” which offers the perspective of young Greeks on what Democracy means, presented in Lisbon and Athens (with an exhibition in Brussels currently in preparation), Pauliana Valente Pimentel returns with “The Behaviour of Being” to the theme of Youth, a subject she has long reflected upon throughout her artistic career.

“The Behaviour of Being” stems from the residency in which Pauliana Valente Pimentel participated in June 2015, in the Algarve, together with 12 other international artists, organized by “The Beekeepers” and “The Cob Gallery.” The exhibition was presented at this renowned London gallery last September.
