Galeria das Salgadeiras once again participates in JUST MAD with the curatorial proposal “Rest and Movement. Invention.” featuring works by Augusto Brázio, Daniela Krtsch, Rui Horta Pereira, and Rui Soares Costa, centered around the poem “Invention” by Gonçalo M. Tavares.
Though they may be understood as opposites, rest and movement are like two moments in the circular process that symbolizes the act of creation and our own lives. We need the first in order to observe closely, to look attentively, to step outside ourselves; and the second to bring that thought into reality, focusing on ourselves, like a dialogue invented between alterity and identity.
From one of the shores, a boomerang is thrown. It goes and returns, tracing a curve in the air, in a continuous movement drawn by the force exerted by the center, suspended by the force upon its wings. It returns, lands on the ground, perhaps it will not remain in the same place. Rest after movement.
To invent Rest.
In the midst of movement, Rest.
It is not interruption. It is not stopping. It is continuity.
Movement continues toward Rest which continues toward Movement which continues toward Rest which continues toward Movement.
