The exhibition “O amor mata” (Love Kills) resumes from research that José Francisco Vilhena began around ten years ago on domestic violence, focusing primarily on the collection of news reports on the subject and his involvement in academic work related to it. Over the years, the artist has built an archive of references and icons that are now materialized in this exhibition: diptychs featuring photographs of objects used by the aggressor alongside crosses placed on the ground, which sublimely represent what is a violation of Human Rights.

The small-format black-and-white images invite the viewer to adopt an attentive, critical, and reflective gaze toward the society in which they are embedded. In addition to these diptychs, the exhibition “Love Kills” includes a visual, sound, and textual installation centered on the heart as a symbol of Love, in an abstract representation of Woman and, ultimately, of all of us.
