Galeria das Salgadeiras

In her first exhibition in Lisbon, Alexandra Rafael, born in Coimbra in 1990 and living in Porto since completing her studies in 2008, presents a group of works that explore iron as both medium and discourse, hence the chemical symbol of this element as the title of the exhibition.

A series of prints, matrices, and installations explores the various territories of Printmaking as an artistic expression, works that “carry within them the memory of an arduous and complex process [the engraved work], composed of several stages of creation and construction, while at the same time inviting us to contemplate beauty and a certain nostalgia for a time that, though already past, continues to be.”

The title of the exhibition thus refers, in a more conceptual way, to the chemical symbol of iron, the unifying element of this exhibition, while in another dimension evoking other meanings of the concept of “Faith,” in this implicit and ambiguous play on words.
