On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Hieronymus Bosch, Galeria das Salgadeiras presents “From a Place Where There Are No Toads” by Guilherme Parente, inviting the artist to revisit and reinterpret the work of this major figure of Medieval painting.
In what is his third solo exhibition at Galeria das Salgadeiras, Parente returns with a series of previously unseen works. “From a Place Where There Are No Toads”, that symbol of Evil so often evoked in Bosch’s paintings, brings us a series of fantastic illusions that draw Parente’s painting closer to Bosch’s, more from a perspective of affections and sensibilities than from a formal or aesthetic one — as Ana Matos notes in the exhibition text.
