Da leveza do sonho

Galeria das Salgadeiras

Wind, water, mountain. Perhaps even fire. Air, so much air, spaces that become free, stripped of the representation of what is visible; and it is from the invisible, from the dream, that their meaning emerges, or rather multiple meanings. These are interpretations of those places that inhabit the imaginary cartography of Teresa Gonçalves Lobo, an atlas that, with each exhibition, awaits a new existence. Perhaps we must close our eyes in order to see them come into being.

The lines, always ascending, often overlapping and intensifying the symbolism of the gesture, bring us mountain peaks, the flight of a swallow which, though it does not make spring, carries its spirit; vigorous reeds rooted in the earth, perhaps sugarcane, given the artist’s Madeiran origins, and the wind passing through the landscape. The lines, this immense lexicon of Teresa Gonçalves Lobo, speak to us here of lightness, of the lightness that reaches us when we close our eyes. They arise from the lightness of the dream, the one that “governs life.”

The opening is part of the 9th edition of Bairro das Artes, the cultural rentrée of Lisbon’s seventh hill.
