For this exhibition, Fátima Frade Reis evokes her encounters with blue. Following the example of Manuel de Barros’ poetic statement, to find the blue I use birds, Fátima Frade Reis brings us the suggestion of these birds, which can also be algae, sea or sky, in the intersection of their eyes and the paper.
Always remembering blue as the basis of an entire process triggered by navy blue, which is added to Prussian blue, cerulean, cobalt, but also lemon yellow, zinc white, among others. Blue is like yeast that gives rise to tones and volumes in a game between presence and absence. Color as a journey through planes, sometimes parallel, sometimes perpendicular, in labyrinthine spaces that the artist discovers.
When drawing each line, Fátima Frade Reis accumulates a sequence of minutes, hours, days or weeks and months to weave a pattern of time, as if the thought were in the element as a whole: in the stain and its emptiness, in the clarity and density. Is there perhaps more light than shadow in your work? Always flying over the form, the rhythm of the lines, the composition, he creates elements that deal with perspective, overlapping, moving away in the rhythm of translucent planes of color.
