Salgadeiras Contemporary Art participates for the second time in the General Program of Art Brussels 2026. For this edition of Art Brussels, we present the curatorial project “Silence is the sharing / of the furtive / flame”, featuring works by Cláudio Garrudo, Daniela Krtsch, and Rui Soares Costa. The project suggests a dialogue around this (Western) haiku by José Tolentino de Mendonça, which, as he himself notes, draws on the tradition of Japanese haiku “as a snapshot that reveals both the striking and the implicit, the wonder and the tension inherent to life.”Tolentino de Mendonça’s poetry—this construction of images of silence, contemplation, longing, and exaltation that dissolve in the very next moment—runs through the works presented in this proposal.

Artists Carlos Alexandre Rodrigues, Cláudio Garrudo, Daniela Krtsch, Eva Díez, Fátima Frade Reis, and Rui Soares Costa participated with their works in The Kick Cancer, an initiative running parallel to Art Brussels, whose proceeds go to the eponymous Foundation that helps children with cancer.
