Festina Lente

Salgadeiras Arte Contemporânea

For this exhibition, Rita Magalhães appropriates a Latin expression, Festina Lente, which means “Hasten slowly.” In a play on words, meanings, and contexts, the camera lens and the lens that Rita Magalhães constructs to deconstruct reality—another oxymoron—the artist continues her investigation of landscape, drawing on references such as Turner or Gainsborough. “Festina Lente” is Rita Magalhães’ first exhibition at Salgadeiras Arte Contemporânea and marks her representation in Lisbon by the gallery.
